Collection: Monica

My name is Moni, I am 29 years old and I was born in Caspala, Valle Grande. I make handmade embroideries, they are called rebozos... I learned to embroider at the age of 9 with my great-grandmother and she from her grandmother, we are generations of embroiderers, women from my town who historically do this and we want it to transcend the "now".

My technique is particular, it is inspired by all kinds of flowers, I create and design them myself, I try to make nature and pachamama vibrate in my blankets, that's why the bright color, the blankets are full of life.

I draw freehand on picotina or picota fabric, I select the colors of thread that are very, very fine thickness and I think, I think of my hometown, my ancestors, my landscapes and the embroidery spreads naturally on the fabric as if it were speaking.

The embroidery process takes from 40 days to 2 months depending on the size of the shawl and the number of flowers applied. I also prepare a woven lace and with that I give a very nice frame and border to the blanket, I finish it with a ribbon and fringes and so it is ready to try to sell it.
